LET’S TALK BUTTER CHICKEN
Butter Chicken Recipe
Ingredients
500 grams boneless chicken thighs or breasts cut into chunks
1 cup plain yogurt
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons garam masala
1 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon chili powder
Salt to taste
For the sauce
2 tablespoons butter
1 large onion finely chopped
3 cloves garlic minced
1 tablespoon ginger grated
2 large tomatoes pureed
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon garam masala
1 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon sugar
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander and a splash of cream for garnish
Instructions
Start by marinating the chicken in yogurt lemon juice turmeric cumin chili powder garam masala and salt. Mix well and let it sit for at least 30 minutes or preferably overnight in the fridge. This step adds flavor and makes the chicken super tender
In a large pan melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook until golden brown. Stir in the garlic and ginger and cook until fragrant. Pour in the pureed tomatoes and cook until the oil starts to separate. Add chili powder garam masala and salt. Let the sauce simmer until thick and rich
Now add the marinated chicken pieces and cook until they’re fully done and the sauce coats them well. Stir in the cream and sugar and let it simmer for another 5 to 10 minutes until everything blends beautifully and the chicken is soft and juicy
Finish with a swirl of cream and chopped fresh coriander. Serve hot with naan or steamed basmati rice for a truly satisfying meal
